Mission & History

The Mission of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation is:
“Working with the community to raise and manage funds to enhance patient care and education at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.”

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation

The primary purpose of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation is to enhance the quality of health care in our community by raising money for the priority and specialized needs of our Regional Secondary Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. The Foundation plays a critical role in funding essential specialized equipment, major projects, patient care programs and education.

Due to our continuous challenging health care climate, the Foundation must make every effort to help our hospital meet the growing needs of its community as well as the needs of the Northwestern Alberta region that it serves. Our Hospital also serves numerous residents from Eastern British Columbia and the Territories.

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and provides a vital link to the thousands of individuals and organizations in our community and region that choose to offer their support to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. We are a Registered Canadian Charitable Organization, therefore, all donors receive an official tax receipt. Donors who invest in our Hospital Foundation provide many benefits to patients. In many cases, there are no other sources of funding for these very worthwhile patient care programs and to purchase much needed equipment. As an organization entrusted with the stewardship of donor contributions, we strive to match the wishes of our donors with the priority needs of our Hospital.

If a donor wishes to support a specific program or department of the Hospital, the Foundation ensures that the gift is used as intended. The Foundation also receives many contributions that are not designated for a specific purpose. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees determines where the need is the greatest to direct these donations.

In all cases, the Foundation provides timely and appropriate recognition of gifts, regardless of the amount, through its Royal Donor Recognition Program. All gifts are acknowledged and very much appreciated.
To maintain its awareness about developments in the charitable health care sector, the Foundation has access to information from other organizations which include: The Association for Health Care Philanthropy (AHP), The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP).

Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Auxiliary Association

The Foundation has worked in partnership with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Auxiliary Association for the past 12 + years. Today, they are partners in our Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Dream Home Lottery and have manned Mrs. Klaus’ Kitchen (The Co-op Marketplace Kitchen) at Festival of Trees for many years. They are a very reliable and dedicated group of volunteers who raise funds for everyday necessities at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Foundation History

In 1984, a large legacy from Sarah Joan Alward was made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. It was then that a vision to develop a comprehensive fundraising program was born, and the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation was established.

In 1988, the Foundation became involved with its first event – The Festival of Trees.

When regionalization occurred in 1994-95, the Foundation inherited the Visual Arts Program and the Lifeline Program.
In 1996, the Planned Giving Program was started and the Heritage Society was established.

In October 1999, the Foundation inherited the Dream Home Lottery.

Today, the Foundation generates over $2 million dollars in gross revenue. The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is recognized as the Regional Secondary Referral Centre for Northwestern Alberta, Northeastern British Columbia, and the Territories.

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation Office is located in the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, on the main floor, near the Hospital Administration Offices just past the Gift Shop.
